Keeping your surfaces clean in a post-lockdown era

Posted on June 25, 2020 || News

We all have been waiting for the day that would mark the end of the lockdown with profound excitement and unrestrained euphoria. The last couple of months have taught us to pay attention to the details and have “impregnated” us with “sanitising knowledge.” Now that we gently return to some normality without major hinders, we need to adopt the habit of frequently sanitising and cleaning our home.

In doing so, we always need to take into account the fact that our surfaces have their own unique characteristics, and when it’s time to clean them, we need to do it properly, avoiding irreparable damages. Although the traditional sweeping and moping most of the times does the job for the bacterial and immediate “shininess”, it is important to keep an eye for dirt or grime and use the right tools to tackle each situation when it comes to preserving your surfaces.

Keep your Ceramic and Porcelain Tiles free from bacteria, looking like brand new!

The incredible durability and make of ceramic and porcelain tiles makes them very easy to clean.

To start with, we should always remove any “debris” visible or not, either with a sweep or a vacuum. The detergent should be mild, with high antibacterial use so that both, stains and bacteria are cleared from the surface. You should always look for soap residue to avoid the hazy look that soap creates following a general clean. For ceramic and porcelain tiles, you could also try a “homemade” cleaner solution with a mild acid such as fresh lemon juice. You should never let your glazed tile floors air-dry as the water that sits there after the cleaning could form water spots. After making sure that the surface is cleaned and sanitised, you then could wipe your surface with a clean, lint-free cloth immediately after washing.

For the family of stone tile floors such as slate, marble, and granite, the cleaning process has a lot of Do’s and Don’ts, for not tampering with their natural classic and sleek look.

Slate Tiles:

Out of all-natural stones, slate is one of the most characterful with its riven surface. When you choose to include slate in your home, you choose to bring the outdoor in, achieving the perfect contemporary feel. For slate tiles, you can start by removing any debris with a sweep. A mild detergent without acidic properties works well and if your slate is coated then you should make sure to remove the water spots, by drying with a soft towel at once.

Marble:

Marble, the king of the stone category, is a precious and stunning tile preferred for their ability to transform the areas of our homes into actual masterpieces of style, masterfully blending with the overall functionality. Marble comes in many unique designs, but the sanitisation and cleaning specifications need to be strictly followed in order to keep the “liveliness”. Marble is negatively affected by anything that has an acidic PH level, but also the cleaners that involve lemon or vinegar. You should also avoid anything that may scratch the marble, such as worn vacuum cleaners, as the plastic attachments or the wheels may scratch the precious surface. Specialised cleaners for marble are available in the market, but if you need an immediate solution, baking soda and clear water can do the trick.

Granite Tile:

The attractive, durable, and versatile granite, is an ideal prestigious material, perfect for interior use.

The impression it gives when accommodates the areas of your home, is that of grace, elegance, and quality.

Just like slate and Marble, granite needs some extra care than normal surfaces. Mild detergents with PH neutrality are best for use. In the case of a heavier cleaner, the possibility for streaks or discolouring is increased.
